Indonesia is included in a disaster-prone area. Disasters have a fairly large hazard impact so that mitigation exercises are needed and the community participates in participating in the training. One of the targets is teenagers. Adolescents are a group of individuals who have enthusiasm and are productive in mobilizing the community to participate in disaster mitigation and socializing it to the community. This is one of the necessary foundations for assisting youth/adolescents in obtaining disaster management training.
Lack of awareness and skills of youth about their role in disaster management so that assistance is needed. The UI Action Team consisting of Lecturers of the Basic Nursing and Basic Nursing (DKKD) Department, namely Ns. La Ode Abdul Rahman, S.Kep., MBA and three Postgraduate Students of the Faculty of Nursing, University of Indonesia, namely Ns. Arjuna, S.Kep, Ns. Silvia Elki Putri, S.Kep, Ns. Boby Nurmagandi, S.Kep, has provided assistance to youth as agents of change in disseminating disaster mitigation to the community. This goal cannot be realized if it is not accompanied by concrete actions. Various kinds of activities can be done to achieve this.
The real form of movement carried out by the UI Action Team is the Disaster Management Information Center and the Establishment of a Disaster Awareness Community in Wakatobi. UI Action Team Leader, Ns. La Ode Abdul Rahman, S.Kep., MBA said that the volunteers who participated in the mentoring were given training (ToT) of disaster-aware youth as a strategic step and disaster simulation exercises with scenarios to improve cognitive, affector and psychomotor functions, then disaster mitigation assistance in schools and communities, procurement of disaster mitigation education media. In addition, youth as participants were also given a disaster kit as a form of socialization of the procurement of disaster preparedness bags in disaster-prone areas.
Mentoring activities for teenagers were carried out on July 24, 2019 while mentoring for health workers was on July 25, 2019. This activity was attended by teenagers with high school education, local government, health workers at the Puskesmas, UI Action Team, and several other invited guests. The UI Action Team also visited the Popalia Health Center, Binongko.
The activity begins with a pretest and ends with a posttest. Among them there is the provision of material followed by interactive activities with question based learning and problem based learning methods. The formation of a disaster-aware community and a disaster simulation exercise closed the training activity.
