Dewi Irawaty, M.A., Ph.D. is a lecturer in the Department of Medical Surgical Nursing at the Faculty of Nursing, Universitas Indonesia (FoN UI). She holds a Diploma in Nursing, a Postgraduate Certificate in Nursing, a Master of Arts (M.A.) in Nursing, and a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Nursing. She is a member of the Indonesian National Nurses Association (PPNI).
Throughout her distinguished career, Dewi Irawaty has made significant contributions to the advancement of nursing in Indonesia. She served as Dean of FoN UI from 2008 to 2014, during which she oversaw the establishment of the Doctoral Program in Nursing — the first of its kind in Indonesia. Prior to her deanship, she served as Deputy Dean for Academic Affairs for two consecutive terms and held the position of Academic Chief of the Nursing Department.
Beyond academia, she played a pivotal role in the professionalization of nursing in Indonesia. As Chairwoman of the Indonesian National Nurses Association (PPNI) from 2010 to 2015, she was a key advocate for the enactment of the Nursing Act, which was passed on 26 September 2014 and enacted on 17 October 2014 — a landmark achievement for the nursing profession in Indonesia. She has also served on the Ethics Honor Council of PPNI and contributed to national nursing policy and credentialing frameworks.
