The nurse’s gait from time to time is narrated in the form of a seminar which is a form of a series of activities in the design of the University of Indonesia Nursing Museum. This activity was initiated by researchers from the Faculty of Nursing, University of Indonesia (FoN UI) because they saw that the role of nurses was very important in preventing infections in hospitals, for that researchers intended to perpetuate this important role in a nursing museum which also tells about the journey of Prevention and Control infection (PPI). A survey in Taiwan said that the prevalence of infection in hospitals can reach 3.53%, with the most common infections being respiratory tract infections (49.43%), followed by surgical infections (22.99%)1. Seeing the incidence of this infection, nurses must play an important role in its prevention and control.

The Seminar on Nurses’ Gait from Time to Time was held in the framework of the 34th FoN UI Dies Natalis by bringing together senior nursing, lecturers, and students to exchange information and experiences regarding the role of nurses from time to time, especially in preventing and controlling infections. The speakers at this seminar were professors of FoN UI and well-known senior nursing, namely Prof. Achir Yani S. Hamid, M.N., D.N.Sc., Prof. Dra. Elly Nurachmah, S.Kp., M.App.Sc., D.N.Sc., Prof. Dr. Ratna Sitorus, S.Kp., M.App.Sc., and Mrs. Johanna R. Hendriks, BSc., Dipl.Nsg.Adm., CV.RN.

The open discussion at this seminar explained how the development of the nursing profession was divided into three major periods, namely before 1985, the period from 1985 to 1995, and the period from 1995 to the present. The period before 1985 explained that the situation in Indonesia after independence at that time experienced many outbreaks, so that the number and quality of health workers, in this case nurses, were demanded. Nursing improved her education at that time, and the Indonesian National Nurses Association (PPNI) was born which was first led by Mr. Oyo Radiat, M.Sc. In the period between 1985 and 1995, the development of higher nursing education developed slowly. FIK UI’s struggle to become its own faculty made a big history. The third period, which is the period from 1995 to the present, has developed nursing until FoN UI consists of various departments within it. Discussions at each period emphasized that the nursing profession is important to be proud of and every nurse needs to have confidence to support the professional nursing profession. The speaker boasted how FoN UI is now trying to perpetuate this profession in the Nursing Museum through its servants.

This seminar has indirectly represented the vision of the nursing museum to be built, which is to facilitate the exchange of new ideas, the results of which will be useful for the development of the Nursing Museum of the University of Indonesia. Senior nursing meetings with researchers are expected to help establish a museum by providing many grants for museum collections. The seminar was attended by 200 participants who were all members of the FoN UI community who had the opportunity to attend (deans, lecturers, and students) as well as other invitees from institutions outside of FoN.
