The Faculty of Nursing, Universitas Indonesia (FoN UI), continues to assert its role as a leading higher education institution for nursing. It not only produces professional nurses but also shapes individuals of strong character, ethics, and social and cultural awareness. This commitment was highlighted by the Arts and Culture Performance, part of the Integrated Personality Development Course (MPKT), which involved all first-year FoN UI students.

This arts and culture performance isn't merely a supplementary activity; it's an integral part of the curriculum designed to cultivate students' soft skills—including teamwork, creativity, and effective communication. Simultaneously, it instills a sense of national pride, cultural preservation, and noble national values. Through an educational and reflective approach, this event encourages students to not only learn nursing science but also to understand their identity and cultural roots as a fundamental aspect of a holistic nurse's character.

This event was led by the Course Coordinator and MPKT Lecturer, Dr. Tuti Nuraini, S.Kp., M.Biomed., alongside a team of other MPKT lecturers: Prof. Nani Nurhaeni, Dr. Astuti Yuni Nursasi, Ibu Dewi Irawaty, M.A., Ph.D.; Dr. Dewi Gayatri, S.Kp., M.Kes; Dr. Hanny Handiyani, S.Kp., M.Kep; Dr. Tri Budiati, S.Kep., M.Kep., Sp.Kep.Mat; Dr. Wiwit Kurniawati, M.Kep., Sp.Mat; Dr. Nur Agustini, S.Kp., M.Si; and Ns. Shanti Farida R., S.Kep., M.Kep., Sp.KMB. These faculty members were not just instructors, but also mentors and motivators throughout the students' creative process.

"This activity aims to build skills in collaboration, creativity, communication, as well as love for Indonesia's homeland and culture," stated Dr. Tuti. "The arts and culture performance serves as a tangible medium for students to apply MPKT material in their daily lives."

The entire process of this activity—from ideation, planning, costume creation, storytelling, to execution—was fully designed and carried out by the students. Lecturers acted as facilitators, guiding them with a student-centered learning approach. Appreciation was also given to the groups with the best performances as a form of recognition for the students' dedication and collaborative spirit.

MPKT is a substantial 6-credit course, so student enthusiasm to achieve the best grades is even higher. For them, this activity isn't an added burden; rather, it's a means of expression and intellectual refreshment. The arts and culture performance becomes an alternative space that develops leadership skills, project management abilities, and even social adaptability.

"All ideas and preparations were done by the students. We, as lecturers, merely provided direction," Dr. Tuti continued. "This is the true essence of character education."

One of the challenges that arose was the limited financial resources of some students. However, this very obstacle sparked boundless creativity. It proved that the spirit of creation doesn't have to be expensive; it just needs to be meaningful.

More than that, art and culture are essential elements in nursing education. Nursing is, in essence, a profession that combines science and art: the science of understanding the human body and clinical interventions, and the art of touching patients' hearts with empathy, communication, and humanistic values.

"MPKT stands for Mata Kuliah Pengembangan Kepribadian Terintegrasi (Integrated Personality Development Course)," concluded Dr. Tuti. "Our hope is that FoN UI students will not only excel intellectually but also possess strong character, ethics, and a deep love for their homeland."

This activity also underscores FoN UI's mission to produce excellent and impactful graduates. These are graduates who are not only ready to compete globally in the nursing field, but also emerge as leaders of change who uphold cultural values, diversity, and social sustainability.

FoN UI believes that outstanding character is not only shaped within the confines of the classroom but also through collective experiences that cultivate emotion, creativity, and initiative—as vividly demonstrated on the MPKT arts and culture stage.

With this success, FoN UI encourages the replication of similar activities at the student organization level and in other extracurricular activities. This initiative aims to make arts and culture an integral and sustainable part of the complete nursing education ecosystem.
