Helsinki, 8 Juni 2025 The Faculty of Nursing (FoN) at Universitas Indonesia (UI) once again showed its presence on the international stage. Nisrina Nuraliyyah Muliawan, a student from the 2022 batch of the undergraduate Nursing Science program, was chosen to represent Indonesia at The International Council of Nurses (ICN) Student Assembly 2025 in Helsinki, Finland.

Through the support of the Indonesian National Nurses Association (PPNI), Nisrina not only attended as a participant but also had the honor of representing Indonesia in the ICN Student and Early Career Nurses (SECN) Alliance. In this forum, Nisrina was selected as a Steering Committee member representing the Southeast Asia (SEARO) region, making her part of a strategic global circle to voice the aspirations of young nurses.

As a member of the Steering Committee, Nisrina holds an important role as the communication hub among delegates from countries in the SEARO region. She also actively promotes the strengthening of regional solidarity and builds collaboration between countries to advocate for the well-being of nursing students and young nurses worldwide.

During the Student Assembly, each country's representative had the opportunity to deliver an official intervention on two crucial issues that impact the well-being of nursing students and the global health system. On this occasion, Nisrina delivered an intervention regarding the financial stressors experienced by nursing students, which significantly affect their well-being and the continuation of their studies. This issue highlights the major challenges students face in meeting their basic needs and education costs, which often have an impact on their mental health and academic performance. In addition, Nisrina also raised the issue of a lack of access to women's healthcare facilities, especially in rural areas in Indonesia. She highlighted the gap in essential healthcare services for women, which is caused by limited facilities, a shortage of medical personnel, and a lack of health education, all of which ultimately increase the risk of complications and lower the quality of life for women in marginalized regions. Both of these issues were presented by Nisrina as a form of her concern for vulnerable groups and as part of an advocacy for a more just and inclusive healthcare system.

"From this meeting, I learned that nurses are not just healthcare professionals, but also the backbone of society. Nurses have the power to shape a better future for the world, and they deserve recognition for their extraordinary contributions," said Nisrina.

Nisrina also noted that this international forum provides a wonderful space to exchange cross-cultural views and experiences, and to strengthen the sense of global solidarity among nursing students and early career nurses.

Nisrina's involvement in this international forum is a clear testament to FoN UI's excellence, not just in educational quality but also in shaping students who are impactful and ready to contribute globally. The spirit of global citizenship, leadership, and advocacy demonstrated by Nisrina aligns with FoN UI's vision as a center of excellence in nursing education that answers the challenges of the times.
