Another proud achievement has been made by a student of the Faculty of Nursing, Universitas Indonesia (FoN UI). Kadek Dewi Cahyani, a Master’s student in Nursing at FoN UI, won the Best Oral Presentation award at The 5th International Joint Conference on Nursing and Sustainability (IJCNS) 2025, organized by the Department of Nursing, Faculty of Medicine, Public Health, and Nursing, Universitas Gadjah Mada, on August 7–8, 2025, in Yogyakarta.
Dalam forum akademik bergengsi ini, Kadek mempresentasikan penelitian berjudul “Intervention for Older Adult in the Age of Climate Change: a Systematic Review of Intervention Studies” Penelitian tersebut menyoroti isu yang semakin dekat dengan masyarakat, yaitu dampak perubahan iklim terhadap kesehatan mental dan fisik lansia.
The systematic review presented by Kadek identified two key interventions for older adults in coping with climate change: physiological interventions and psycho-educational interventions. The physiological intervention, involving the intake of cold water, proved effective in lowering core body temperature and heart rate, thereby helping older adults remain more resilient during extreme heat. Meanwhile, the psycho-educational intervention, delivered through a seven-session educational program, successfully reduced anxiety, sadness, and anger among older adults related to climate change, while also enhancing risk awareness and adaptive strategies.
“Older adults are often the most vulnerable and overlooked group in climate adaptation strategies. This study aims to emphasize the importance of tailored approaches to ensure they remain healthy, independent, and empowered,” said Kadek Dewi Cahyani.
The Dean of the Faculty of Nursing UI, Prof. Dr. Rr. Tutik Sri Hariyati, S.Kp., MARS, also expressed her appreciation. *“This achievement is not only a source of pride for Kadek, but also serves as evidence that FoN UI students are capable of making real contributions in addressing global issues of health and sustainability,”* she said.
The 5th International Joint Conference on Nursing and Sustainability (IJCNS) is an international conference that brings together nursing academics, practitioners, and researchers to discuss issues of health sustainability. This year, the event was held in Yogyakarta on August 7–8, 2025, with the overarching theme of nursing’s role in addressing the challenges of climate change and sustainable development.
The achievement of FoN UI students at this event is expected to serve as an inspiration for other students to continue creating, contributing, and bringing pride to Universitas Indonesia at both national and international levels.
