As thousands of people took to the streets to voice their aspirations, the presence of healthcare professionals and volunteers became essential in ensuring their safety and wellbeing. The Alumni Association of the Faculty of Nursing, Universitas Indonesia (ILUNI UI FIK), in collaboration with Rufaidah Humanity Care (RHC) and Nursing First Aid (NuFA), responded to this humanitarian call by providing logistical support, ambulance services, and medical care for participants of the demonstration in Jakarta on Friday (29/8).

The assistance extended beyond providing food and beverages to sustain participants’ energy. It also included first aid services for those experiencing fatigue or health issues. An ambulance was stationed on-site to ensure that anyone requiring further medical attention could be promptly treated. The presence of ILUNI UI FIK, Rufaidah Humanity Care, and Nursing First Aid served as a reminder that raising the voice of the people should never come at the expense of health and safety.

“Nurses, students, and alumni are not confined to working only in hospitals. We also stand with communities, side by side, when their voices need to be heard. Our presence is a moral responsibility as academics and healthcare professionals,” said Ns. Diksi Hera Berliana, M.Kep., an alumna of FIK UI and Director of Rufaidah Humanity Care.

This collaboration is not new. Since the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020, ILUNI UI FIK, Rufaidah Humanity Care, and Nursing First Aid have worked hand in hand in various community service initiatives and health advocacy programs. The momentum on August 29, 2025, reaffirmed that this partnership extends beyond times of crisis, evolving into an ongoing movement that remains responsive to social and humanitarian issues.

For students, this collaboration serves as a real-world learning platform that demonstrates the broader role of nurses—not only in caring for patients, but also in accompanying communities as they strive for their rights. One student who took part in the demonstration shared, “It feels reassuring to have a healthcare team around us. We can focus on voicing our aspirations without worrying if a friend suddenly falls ill or faints.”

For the wider community, the presence of ILUNI UI FIK, Rufaidah Humanity Care, and Nursing First Aid stands as a symbol of solidarity: a testament that healthcare professionals are on the front lines—safeguarding lives while also supporting the voice of the people.

It is hoped that this initiative will continue as a collective movement, strengthening the network between students, alumni, and social organizations. In this way, nursing is present not only in medical services, but also within the spaces of democracy—bringing forth a spirit of humanity that resonates closely with the pulse of community life.
