Helsinki, Finlandia – Juni 2025 The Faculty of Nursing (FoN) at Universitas Indonesia (UI) once again affirmed its commitment on the international stage with the presence of Prof. Achir Yani Syuhaimie Hamid, M.N., DNSc, at the ICN-CNR Meeting (June 7–9, 2025) and the International Council of Nurses (ICN) Congress (June 9–13, 2025) in Helsinki, Finland. This event served as a strategic platform that brought together nursing leaders and practitioners from around the world to discuss crucial issues in global nursing.
Prof. Achir Yani attended as a Support Person in the official delegation of the Central Board of the Indonesian National Nurses Association (DPP PPNI), which was led directly by the Chairman of DPP PPNI, Harif Fadhillah. This role also reaffirms her continued contribution to international nursing diplomacy, as well as the representation of Indonesian nursing science on the world stage.
As a senior figure and academic from FoN UI, Prof. Achir Yani accompanied various strategic processes in the world's highest nursing forum, including the Council of National Representatives (CNR) Meeting agenda, which was attended by representatives from 99 National Nurses Associations (NNA) out of a total of 140 ICN member countries. PPNI has been the 125th member of the ICN since June 2003, during Prof. Achir Yani's leadership as the Head of PPNI. This forum discussed various important matters, from ICN's achievement reports, updates to the definition of nursing and the nursing profession, the well-being and safety of nurses in conflict-ridden countries, to the election of the ICN President and Board members for the 2025–2029 period.
Prof. Achir Yani's involvement also strengthens FoN UI's position as a nursing education institution that is active in the development of the profession at a global level. On this occasion, she also became an important link between academics, practitioners, and international stakeholders who are collaborating to find solutions to the major challenges in the nursing world, including those related to the well-being of nurses, the distribution of workloads, and the strengthening of nurses' roles in the healthcare system.
In addition to accompanying the strategic processes of the Indonesian delegation, Prof. Achir Yani also played a role in bridging the gap for Indonesia's young nursing generation who were also present at this international forum, such as in sessions with global students and young nurses. Indonesia was represented by Nisrina, a student from the 2022 batch of FoN UI's Nurse Professional Program, who participated in the ICN Alliance of Student and Early Career Nurses forum. In addition, there were several FoN UI alumni and lecturers who are studying abroad and were included in the delegation of the universities where they are studying, mainly attending and speaking at the ICN Congress.
The ICN Congress 2025 was organized by the International Council of Nurses (ICN) in collaboration with the Finnish Nurses Association as the host. The congress adopted the main theme of empowering nurses to strengthen the health sector's economy, in line with the International Nurses Day 2025 celebration: "Our Nurses, Our Future – Caring for Nurses Strengthens Economies."
Prof. Achir Yani S. Hamid's presence at this forum is a tangible form of FoN UI's contribution to global nursing diplomacy. It is also part of an effort to build international networks and collaboration to strengthen the capacity and strategic position of Indonesian nurses on the world stage. On Eid al-Adha, June 6, 2025, Prof. Achir Yani, along with the Indonesian delegation, performed Eid prayers and celebrated with the Indonesian community at the Indonesian Embassy in Helsinki.
