In order to support the prevention of environmental pollution, the UI Faculty of Nursing academic community is directly involved in the UI Action for the 2019 country by bringing up the topic of Go green: Alternative Energy and Reducing Plastic Waste. The FoN UI Community Service Team led by a Lecturer from the Department of Basic Nursing and Basic Nursing (DKKD), namely Ns. La Ode Abdul Rahman, S.Kep., MBA and three Postgraduate Students of the Faculty of Nursing, University of Indonesia, namely Ns. Arjuna, S.Kep, Ns. Silvia Elki Putri, S.Kep, Ns. Boby Nurmagandi, S.Kep targets youth who are members of the island children community in the Togo Binongko sub-district, Wakatobi Regency, Southeast Sulawesi province, which is held for 2 days, namely on 24-25 July 2019.
The use of alternative energy as an effort to go green in this activity aims to support the increase in reading interest of island children. Through the procurement and installation of solar panels to utilize sunlight as an alternative energy, the lighting system for the children’s island community library began to be improved. Utilization of alternative energy as a source of electrical energy because the location is still lacking in electricity availability from PLN also aims to reduce air pollution due to other power plants that are not environmentally friendly. This activity is also in line with the geographical location of Wakatobi Regency in the southeast of the island of Sulawesi which is not far from the equator where the sunlight that shines is very effective for utilizing it as an energy source.
Another go green effort in this community service is a campaign to reduce the use of plastic and recycle plastic waste. This activity aims to increase awareness of the younger generation about the dangers of plastic waste which is a type of waste that can take up to thousands of years to decompose, if its use is still carried out it can damage the balance of the ecosystem, especially the life of marine biota in Waktobi waters. Of course this will have an impact on the condition of tourism which is one of the best tourist sites in the world with the beauty of its coral reefs. Campaign activities for reducing plastic waste and recycling plastic waste are carried out by introducing teenagers to the dangers of plastic waste and implementing ecogreen in the form of utilizing plastic waste from mineral water bottles to be processed into seats by filling with other plastic waste until it becomes solid and hard and then combined. become one part through gluing to be used in the community library, school environment or the environment around the place of residence.
