Depok, August 4, 2025 – The Faculty of Nursing, Universitas Indonesia (FoN UI) reaffirmed its commitment to continue playing an active role in strengthening health human resources in Indonesia. Through its involvement in the Health Human Resources (SDMK) Scholarship Program, FoN UI not only educates health workers at various levels but also contributes directly to the equitable distribution of healthcare services across the country.

According to Ministry of Health data, Indonesia is still experiencing a shortage of around 6,948 healthcare workers at community health centers (Puskesmas) nationwide. This shortage has a tangible impact on the public: limited access to services, long waiting times for surgery, and delayed treatment for catastrophic diseases like cancer and kidney failure.

As part of Universitas Indonesia, FoN UI is one of the faculties entrusted with educating SDMK scholarship recipients in nursing. From 2021 to 2024, a total of 649 scholarship recipients have studied at UI, including at FoN UI. In the 2025/2026 academic year, FoN UI has 191 active participants across various levels, from Bachelor's, Professional Nurse, Master's, to Doctoral programs. In the fall semester of 2025/2026, 72 participants graduated, including those from the Master's and Doctoral Nursing programs, and are ready to return and serve at their home institutions.

"Every scholarship student we educate is not just a learner, but a future agent of change who will return to bring knowledge and skills to strengthen community health services," said Prof. Dr. Rr. Tutik Sri Hariyati, S.Kp., MARS., the Dean of FoN UI.

FoN UI is also taking a strategic step by accelerating the launch of its Gerontic Nursing Specialist Study Program. Originally scheduled to open in the 2027/2028 academic year, the program has been moved forward to 2026/2027. This decision aligns with Indonesia's new challenge of an aging population. Gerontic services are increasingly important to ensure the elderly receive professional, humane, and continuous care.

The Faculty of Nursing, Universitas Indonesia (FoN UI), is proud to be home to healthcare professionals receiving scholarships who will later return to serve at various healthcare and educational institutions. They are Anyta Hera Wahyuni (Persahabatan Central General Hospital), Trisnawati Paulus T. (Dr. Wahidin Sudirohusodo Central General Hospital), Ida Faridah (Marzoeki Mahdi Hospital), Erna Netty R. (Pangkalpinang Health Polytechnic), Eka Sila Handayani (Dr. Kariadi Central General Hospital), Susana (Persahabatan Central General Hospital), and Syahrani Iskandar (Persahabatan Central General Hospital). Their presence reflects FoN UI's commitment to producing excellent healthcare professionals who are ready to contribute to the nation.

They are tangible proof of how scholarship programs not only support education but also produce specialist healthcare professionals who are ready to return and strengthen services at their home institutions.

For FoN UI, the SDMK scholarship is a long-term investment in the nation's health. Prof. Roro added, "We believe that strengthening health human resources is the path to fairer, more equitable, and higher-quality services. FoN UI is committed to continuing to educate professional nurses and healthcare workers who are not only competent but also have a spirit of service."

With the active role of FoN UI, it is hoped that the equitable distribution of healthcare workers can be realized soon, so that people, from big cities to remote areas, can feel their right to decent healthcare services.
