Depok – Amidst the increasing demand for quality nursing services and global challenges such as population aging, health digitization, and international service standards, the Faculty of Nursing at the University of Indonesia (FoN UI) took a strategic step by sending two lecturers to attend Pre-Service Training in Japan.

This activity is an implementation of the collaboration with HITOWA Care Services Co., Ltd, one of Japan's leading providers of elderly care services. The program is designed to strengthen the competence of FoN UI lecturers so that they are able to deliver learning that is relevant to global needs, while also preparing graduates who are adaptable to the changing times.

Two lecturers representing FoN UI, Dr. Ns. Dikha Ayu Kurnia, S.Kep., M.Kep., Sp.Kep.MB. and Ns. Utami Rachmawati, S.Kep., M.Kep., Sp.Kep.Kom., have participated in intensive training at HITOWA Care Service, Niiza Training Center, Saitama, Japan. The training covered learning about Japanese principles of elderly care, known for their high standards in patient quality and safety, digital transformation (DX) in nursing to improve service efficiency and accuracy, and understanding the Japanese nursing insurance system, which can provide valuable insights for curriculum development. Additionally, participants will learn innovative teaching methods to support the implementation of the HITOWA Care Academy program at FoN UI, and delve into Japanese work culture and professional ethics to enrich their global perspective in the learning process.

Dean of FIK UI, Prof. Dr. Rr. Tutik Sri Hariyati, S.Kp., MARS, FISQua, CHAE, emphasized the importance of this program: "Indonesia is facing a phenomenon of an aging population and a need for nurses who understand technology-based services. This training is an important investment to prepare educators who are able to transfer the latest knowledge and skills to students. We want FoN UI graduates to be ready to become leaders of change in the world of health, both at the national and international levels," said Prof. Roro.

With this step, FoN UI further demonstrates its commitment to addressing the challenges of population aging, nursing shortages, and digital disruption in the health sector. The presence of FoN UI lecturers in Japan is expected to bring back best practices that can enrich the curriculum, strengthen research networks, and expand opportunities for students to participate at the global level.
