Depok, 11 February 2025 - The Faculty of Nursing of the University of Indonesia (FoN UI) in collaboration with the Taiwan Education Centre (TEC) Indonesia organised Taiwan Ministry of Education 2025 Study Scholarship Seminar. The event was held at the FIK UI campus, aiming to open up international study opportunities for students, especially in the field of nursing.

The seminar presented the main speakers, Tirta Amerta Effendi, M.Sc., and Putri Kartika Dewi, S.Hum., who explained various scholarship programmes, such as the Taiwan MOE Scholarship for undergraduate, postgraduate, and doctoral levels, Huayu Enrichment Scholarship for Chinese language studies, and postdoctoral opportunities in Taiwan. In addition, participants also received strategies for planning university applications and tips for successfully winning scholarships.

In her remarks, the Dean of the UI Faculty of Nursing, Prof. Dr. Rr. Tutik Sri Hariyati, S.Kp., MARS, FISQua, CHAE, said, ‘We are very enthusiastic about this collaboration. FIK UI is always committed to opening the widest possible access for students to achieve quality education at the global level. This seminar is not just about scholarships, but also about broadening horizons, building international networks, and preparing future nurses who are competitive in the global arena.’

Taiwan is known as a top study destination in Asia with globally recognised higher education quality. More than 100 universities in Taiwan offer international standard programmes with state-of-the-art research facilities. In addition, the multicultural and welcoming environment for international students is a special attraction.

Based on data from QS World University Rankings, several universities in Taiwan such as National Taiwan University (NTU) and National Cheng Kung University (NCKU) are among the world's best universities. Taiwan also ranks high in terms of technological innovation and health research, which is certainly relevant to the field of nursing and health sciences.

Scholarship Benefits for Nursing Students

The scholarship programme offered not only covers tuition fees, but also provides living allowances, health insurance, and support for academic and research activities. This provides a golden opportunity for students to focus on their studies without a heavy financial burden.

In addition, study abroad provides valuable experience in dealing with global challenges, improving cross-cultural communication skills, and expanding professional networks at the international level. This experience is essential for nursing students who will one day work in culturally and socially diverse environments.

Students who have the opportunity to study in Taiwan will also be exposed to an advanced healthcare system. Taiwan is known for its efficient and high-quality universal healthcare system, providing nursing students with hands-on experience in understanding technology-based nursing practice and a comprehensive patient approach.

Not only that, Taiwan is also a thriving centre for medical research and biotechnology. Nursing students interested in research will gain access to state-of-the-art laboratories and collaboration with experts in the healthcare field, opening up opportunities to contribute to the development of nursing science globally.

Another advantage is the opportunity to learn Mandarin, a language that has strategic value in the international workplace. Mastering Mandarin can be a competitive advantage for nursing graduates, especially in facing the challenges of globalisation in the health sector.

Taiwan also offers a safe and high-quality living environment, with a culture that values education and innovation. International students in Taiwan enjoy modern campus facilities, efficient transport links, and a community that supports academic and personal development.

Through this seminar, FoN UI students are expected to better understand various study opportunities in Taiwan and be motivated to continue their education to a higher level. ‘We hope that FoN UI students will not only become professionals in the field of nursing, but also become global ambassadors who are able to bring the good name of Indonesia in the international arena,’ added Prof. Rr. Tutik.

This event is open to all FoN UI academic community and is expected to be the first step to achieving the dream of studying abroad. More than just a seminar, it is a window to explore the world, expand knowledge horizons, and build a brighter future for Indonesian nurses.
