Depok, June 20, 2025 – Two students from the Faculty of Nursing, Universitas Indonesia (FoN UI), Mahsa Nur Zahra and Safira Putri Khoirunnisaa, were selected as delegates for the Summer Inbound Exchange Nursing Program 2025, hosted by Taipei Medical University (TMU) from May 19–23, 2025.

This program represents an international academic collaboration between TMU and universities from various countries, including Universitas Indonesia, Bacol University (Philippines), and Chulalongkorn University (Thailand). The FoN UI students actively participated in various lecture sessions, cross-cultural discussions, and visits to healthcare institutions such as Shuang Ho Hospital, Wan Fang Hospital, and the Postpartum Care Center.

This activity is one of the strategic programs supporting FoN UI's vision and mission to produce graduates who contribute to global health development.

"Through this program, FoN UI students are not only exposed to the healthcare standards and systems of other countries, but also gain direct learning related to the competencies needed when providing healthcare services, especially in specialized units such as dementia centers, postpartum care, and pediatric care," said Dr. Kuntarti, S.Kp., M.Biomed., Manager of Education and Student Affairs at FoN UI.

According to Dr. Kuntarti, the students' participation in international forums also serves as a crucial moment to strengthen FoN UI's curriculum and competency-based learning with a global perspective.

"We hope the students participating in this program can become agents of change within the campus environment," added Dr. Kuntarti. "They can share their experiences and insights with their peers, thereby fostering an open, collaborative, and internationally-oriented academic culture."

This program also serves as a concrete implementation of the collaboration between FoN UI (UI Faculty of Nursing) and the School of Nursing, TMU.
"This activity is part of our efforts to strengthen inter-university cooperation, which was previously outlined in an MoU, while also providing our students with invaluable international exposure," explained Hening Pujasari, S.Kp., M.Biomed., MANP., Ph.D., Manager of Cooperation and Alumni Relations at FoN UI.

According to Dr. Hening, FoN UI is committed to ensuring that every international cooperation agreement results in concrete activities, not just symbolic MoUs.

"We want to ensure this international collaboration is two-way and mutually beneficial," she added. "Following this inbound program, we will continue with a benchmarking and outbound program for both Master's students and lecturers to TMU. Additionally, FoN UI will co-host TMU's international conference, and we will also send an academic delegation there."

Not stopping there, FoN UI is currently in the preparation phase to launch a dual degree program with TMU and is working towards two-way student exchanges.

"Next year, we aim to have inbound students from TMU coming to UI, and vice versa," she revealed. "We want to broaden the impact of this collaboration to more elements—students, lecturers, and the academic system."

For Mahsa and Safira, this experience has been a pivotal point in their academic and personal journeys. It not only broadened their knowledge but also shaped them into more adaptive, courageous, and open-minded individuals towards global perspectives. They expressed great admiration for Taiwan's healthcare system, which emphasizes patient comfort, a humanistic approach, and the active role of nurses in clinical decision-making.

"We learned that being a nurse isn't just about clinical practice in the hospital, but also about being a humanitarian servant sensitive to the social, cultural, and psychological conditions of patients," shared Safira.

Beyond gaining clinical experience, this program also strengthened their cross-cultural communication skills, including the use of English in a professional context. Language barriers, surprisingly, became a catalyst for growth and building confidence in global interactions.

Upon their return to Indonesia, the students are expected to become role models and motivators for their peers. They are also encouraged to maintain communication with participants from other countries to expand their networks and open opportunities for future academic collaborations.
