Three students of the Faculty of Nursing, University Indonesia (FoN UI) have made outstanding achievements in the AUN-Thailand Summer Camp 2024 program which was held on July 1-12, 2024. The program was organized by Chulalongkorn University and Mahidol University, with the aim of introducing Thai medical tourism and supporting the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), especially Goal 3: Good Health and Well-being. The program also brings together students from various ASEAN countries to discuss health issues across disciplines, including healthcare, culture, and the global economy.
Ajeng Pribadi Salam (FoN UI 2021), Andien Zulfa Larasati (FoN UI 2022), and Tayomi Athaya Sani Azizah (FoN UI 2022) represented FoN UI in this prestigious event, competing with students from leading universities such as Nanyang Technological University, National University of Singapore, Universiti Malaya, and Gadjah Mada University. For two weeks, they participated in a series of interesting activities such as lectures, workshops, panel discussions, and group projects all focused on innovation in Thailand's medical tourism sector.
Ajeng Pribadi Salam from FoN UI created an innovative application called “Mama Care”, which is designed to help mothers in rural ASEAN who have difficulty getting access to healthcare. The app provides comprehensive health information while connecting users with appropriate medical services, so that those far from hospitals can still get the help they need.
On the other hand, Andien Zulfa Larasati also showed remarkable achievements with her innovative product that won 2nd Runner Up. The product is “Herblend”, a jelly supplement made from a blend of 10 best traditional ingredients from 10 ASEAN countries. The product focuses on helping to overcome the symptoms of hypertension, offering a natural and effective solution for those who need better blood pressure management.
“The program gave me an in-depth insight into Thailand's highly developed medical tourism in Southeast Asia. I also learned about health in a multicultural environment, which will definitely be very useful for my future career in the health sector in Indonesia.” Ajeng said, sharing her experience.
In addition to innovation development, the participants were also invited to enjoy the beauty of Thai culture through various interesting activities such as learning to cook Thai dishes, traditional Muay Thai boxing, and enjoying Thai massage. They also visited the Siam Museum as well as renowned hospitals such as Siriraj Piyamaharajkarun Hospital to get a first-hand look at healthcare in Thailand.
Dean of FoN UI, Agus Setiawan, S.Kp., M.N., D.N., expressed his appreciation for his students' achievements “The success of FoN UI students in this program proves their ability to compete at the international level. We are very proud of Ajeng, Andien, and Tayomi's achievements. This experience not only broadens their knowledge, but also strengthens collaboration and innovation in the health sector that can be applied in Indonesia in the future.”
The event closed with a farewell dinner where participants wore traditional clothing from their respective countries, representing ASEAN's cultural diversity. The program is expected to inspire participants to continue innovating in the field of health and strengthen regional collaboration for a better future.
