The Faculty of Nursing, University of Indonesia (FoN UI) held disaster mitigation training for students with special needs. This activity took place at the Depok Baru 8 State Elementary School, Depok, West Java from 14-16 August 2019.<\/p>\n

The FoN UI Community Service activity this time carried the theme “Education on Disaster Response at Inclusive Elementary Schools in Depok City. The activity is held as an effort to reduce disaster risk among at-risk children.<\/p>\n

During this time, the FIK UI Community Service Team carried out a number of activities. The series of activities consist of education and disaster response simulations in earthquake and fire disasters; assessment of disaster impact risk at SDN Depok Baru 8 ; education for teachers; as well as grants in the form of equipment for disaster simulations including installation of assembly points, evacuation routes, sirens, first aid kits, fire extinguishers, and disaster preparedness posters.<\/p>\n

The FoN UI Community Service Team also produced two scientific products in the form of a video on Disaster Response Education activities in Inclusive Elementary Schools and a book on Earthquake and Fire Disaster Preparedness Education Modules in Schools. The interesting thing about the Disaster Response Education activities at SD Inclusion is that it uses a variety of learning methods including lectures, discussions, and disaster simulations by teacher participants and all students.<\/p>\n

In addition, educational media used in this activity include posters about disasters, animated disaster preparedness videos, and earthquake alert songs, safety support tools. Then there is also the Educational Module for Earthquake and Fire Disaster Preparedness in Schools compiled by the FoN UI Community Service team.<\/p>\n

\u201cPeople with disabilities such as ABK students tend to be ignored in disaster situations that can cause panic. So it could be that their special needs are not met and they often don’t get help when a disaster emergency occurs, \u201cDr. Allenidekania, MSc. , chairman of the committee.<\/p>\n

Furthermore, Allen also said that the impact of the disaster at SD Inclusion could affect regular students and ABK students who are a group vulnerable to physical and psychological injuries. So that resilience and preparedness in the pre-disaster period are important to improve in order to reduce the adverse effects of post-disaster.<\/p>\n

This disaster education program was initiated by Dr. Allenidekania, MSc., is supported by nursing masters students from FoN UI (Regina Natalia, Havizoh, Muhammad Husein, Amalia Cahyaningtyas, Silvia Elki Putri, and Fransiska Novita Sari) and undergraduate nursing students from FIK UI (Chorina Mega Noviana, Imaz Zaniar Majid, Natasya Moulina , and Afifah Nurul Hidayah). The FIK UI Community Service Team also received support from the Depok City Fire and Rescue Service.<\/p>\n
