Universitas Indonesia (UI) is a world class research university that is committed to foster a strong research and academic invention cultures. Established in 1849, the University has been growing into a modern center of learning and academic excellence within a multicultural community. Being one of the oldest universities in Asia, the University has produced over 400,000 alumni so far.

The University is the national leading university that provides nursing education at undergraduate and graduate levels. The faculty was initially established as Nursing Study Program, under the Faculty of Medicine in 1985. The study program has made a remarkable effort to achieve the recognition as an independent entity that could contribute to the changes of Indonesian health care system particularly in the area of nursing service. This spirit has become a strong foundation for the development of Faculty of Nursing in 1995.

Faculty if Nursing UI (FON UI) expanded its study options by providing Graduate programs in 1999. The faculty admits nurses who have a bachelor degree in nursing to pursue their masters with the area of specialties in Nursing Leadership and Management, Medical Surgical Nursing, Paediatric Nursing, Maternity Nursing, Community Health Nursing, and Mental Health Nursing.

FON UI started to conduct a doctorate program in 2008 in order to address the variety of fast changing healthcare needs. This led FON UI to become the first nursing faculty in Indonesia that runs doctorate education program. This programhas been carefully designed to prepare nurse scientists who conduct cutting edge research that closely links theory and clinical practice. Graduates are prepared for research and academic positionsthat lead the extension of the body of nursing knowledge.

FON UI is located in an urban area of Jakarta, the capital city of Indonesia, and Depok, West Java. This allows students to deal with the ever increasing complexity of health problems in the current healthcare in such a unique environment. This also provides students with opportunities to build needed skills as professional nurses who can contribute to the improvement of the health service quality.

Over 6000 students have graduated from the faculty over the last 30 years. They are now working in a wide range of clinical, educational, and research settings as clinical nurses, community health nurses, industrial field nurses, nurse researchers, nurse educators, as well as clinical nurse specialists. Our graduates are also playing important roles in policy development in health industry in the country.

We strive constantly for excellence in creating a collaborative learning and teaching atmosphere. To support this goal, we provide shared learning modules amongst five faculties in an engaging and stimulating student-centered learning environment, comprising ethics and law, basic biomedical sciences, communication, disaster management, research, and teamwork and collaboration of the healthcare team. Also, we are preparing the continuity of inter-professional education from academic to profession stage with a real world application of inter-professional collaboration principles.
