FoN UI students become the UI contingent in ON-MIPA at the National level

FoN UI students became one of the representatives of the University of Indonesia in the National Olympiad of Mathematics and Natural Sciences (ON-MIPA) organized by the National Achievement Center of the Ministry of Education and Culture of the Republic of Indonesia. There are 4 fields that are contested, namely Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, and Biology, Rendi Saputra (FoN UI 2022) is the contingent for the Biology field.

The general form of the competition is like the National Science Olympiad (OSN) competition with more complex questions. This competition is in the form of application of Biology theory to solve biological problems in the environment. For example, at the UI level selection, there was a question regarding the application of biotechnology in eradicating mosquitoes.

The selection starts from the UI level to determine the best 5 as UI representatives at the regional level selection. The selection is carried out online, after that the 5 participants with the highest scores will be UI representatives for the national ON-MIPA. a series of competitions starting from the selection of university, regional, and national levels. For certain fields, they can represent Indonesia at international level events.

At the regional level selection, the number of participants who took part in this competition was 3854 consisting of students from various campuses throughout Indonesia from four fields of competition: mathematics, physics, biology, and chemistry. From the total number of students, 65 students were taken with the best scores from each field.

To prepare for the selection, Rendi tried to take the time to review the OSN material in high school. Rendi reads books and reading sources for re-study. In addition, there is also intensive training from FMIPA UI which is held around D-a month before the competition. Rendi also often teaches high school/MA students in Jabodetabek to prepare for OSN and KSM. This busyness is a step for Rendi to always remember and re-learn materials about the Biology Olympiad.

“I am very happy because I can represent the University of Indonesia for this big event at the national level, especially since this competition is also credible because it is held directly by the Ministry of Education and Culture. As a nursing student, it is certainly not easy to compete with students from the Biology study program. There, I learned more about time management and priorities in determining when I should study nursing and the material in the competition. Please pray for me, friends, I hope that the UI contingent team and I can get the best results,” explained Rendi.

Good luck Randy! The prayers of the academic community of FoN and UI are always with us.
