Doctor of Nursing Develops Self Care Application for Children with Type 1 Diabetes Mellitus

The Faculty of Nursing, University of Indonesia (FoN UI) has held a doctoral promotion session for Mrs. Nur Agustini. Nur Agustini successfully defended her dissertation entitled Development of Android-Based Self-Care Applications: Carbohydrate Intake and Calorie Output (CICO) Count and the Impact of Trials on Resilience of Children with DMT1, on Monday, January 13, 2020, at 10.00, on the 4th Floor of the Education and Laboratory Building Faculty of Nursing, University of Indonesia, Depok.

This session was chaired by the Dean of FoN UI, Agus Setiawan, S.Kp., M.N., D.N., with the promoter Prof. Yeni Rustina, S.Kp., M.App.Sc., Ph.D., Co-Promoter I Prof. Dr. Ratu Ayu D.S, Apt., M.Sc , Co-Promoter II Dr. Nani Nurhaeni, S.Kp., M.N. And the examiners, namely Dr. dr. Lanny Christine G, Sp.A. (K), Dr. Indra Budi, S. Kom, M. Kom, Dr. dr. Andi Nanis, S.M., Sp.A (K), Dr. agr. Taufik W Priambodo, M.Sc.

The Self-Care Application for Type 1 Diabetes Mellitus (DMT1) is an application that provides daily activities needed to control blood glucose levels (GD) of children with DMT 1 so that GD is in normal or near normal conditions. The application was developed based on the problem of high DKA cases, lack of understanding of parents of DMT1 children about blood glucose control, and the limited number of DMT1 educators. Appropriate and continuous education is very much needed in the management of DMT1. Education through internet technology is the best choice as an effort to solve problems. This study aims to produce a valid application and test the impact of using self-care applications on the resilience of children with DMT1. This application is named Carbohydrate Intake and Calorie Output (CICO) Count which provides the main activity of calculating the carbohydrate needs (KH) in the daily calorie output of DMT1 children and combined with a tree of thanks game (gratitude intervention).
